NYFW Spring 2015: Georgine 1970’s Jet-set Glamour

All photos were taken by me.

Inspired by the 1970’s and her trip to the south of Thailand, designer Georgine Ratelband brought 70’s beach-side glam to Lincoln Center last week Monday. Her collection consisted of beautiful golds, rich creams, metallics and mint. While in Thailand, Georgine spent the whole time in her bathing suit and at night when she went out to dinner, she didn’t want to take it off. Instead of swapping out her bathing suit for a dress, she would throw on a pair of high-waisted pants with her bikini top and then she started thinking. “I was thinking about women in the 1970’s like Bianca Jagger, who would go out like that. Their swimwear was their clothing for nightlife and that really inspired me,” said the designer on how her spring collection came to fruition.

I enjoyed this collection a lot. I was looking forward to seeing her collection once I got the invitation and I can’t wait to see what she will bring for fall. She is quickly becoming one of my favorite designers. Her spring collection was just gorgeous! From the beautiful golden turbans that some of the models wore to the glowing golden, bronzed makeup they were wearing to go along with the theme of beach-side glam. Also I loved the accessories that some of models had, which included mink towels and bags and surfboard clutches (which I want!) in collaboration with Max Steiner designs.

It’s very hard for me to choose my favorite piece out of the whole collection, because I want them all! I liked how she created wearable beach looks but can also be wore in the streets of NYC, because I am not much of beach girl but I can still wear these looks without being on one. Haha. Again, I cannot wait to see what she will do for her fall collection. Georgine is the one to watch.

I was also invited to go backstage before the show started to see the clothes and how the makeup is done on the models, etc. It was my second time going backstage and it was bit more chaotic than the first one I covered for my blogger pal Kela Walker (which you can read here), but I was expecting it. I was bit nervous to touch the clothes because I didn’t think you could, but now I know I can. Also, I got to meet Georgine and interview her as well, which I enjoyed; she’s so nice! See below some of backstage pics:
