Seven Ways to Transition Your Summer Wardrobe to Fall

As September is coming to a close, the weather is getting a bit cooler and its starting to feel like fall (at least it should be, I don’t know what’s up with NY weather lately). Now don’t get me wrong, I’m sad to see Summer leave, but there are many things to love about Fall. The weather is perfect; it’s not too cold or not too hot, the leaves change from green to beautiful hues of brown an orange, and for all my makeup ladies, you can switch from the bright colors of the summer and wear more dark and vampy looks. Did I mention that the weather is perfect? Haha. If you are afraid of saying goodbye to summer or do not want to spend lots of money for some fall gear, then I have the perfect tips on how to take your summer wardrobe and transition it into fall.

1. Layer It Up
The great thing about Fall is that you can layer your outfits together to form different types of looks.Re-incorporate knits back into your wardrobe by layering a cardigan over a camisole with shorts or a sundress. If you don’t want to wear a cardigan, you can opt for a chunky sweater over a short sleeve tee as well. To keep your legs warm during the chilly nights wear a pair of tights or knee highs under shorts. However, remember that balance is key and to keep the rest of your look light and warm weather friendly. Meaning that if you choose to wear a sweater, make sure to wear shorts or a skirt and if you want to wear tights/knee-highs than make sure the top half of your look is light by wearing a cami or a short sleeve tee.

2. The Moto Jacket
I love biker jackets. This outerwear staple is a great addition to any outfit/wardrobe and it is great at keeping you warm. Plus there are various ways you can wear them, such as draped over your shoulder (my favorite way to wear them). Like I mentioned with layers, balance is key when wearing a biker jacket. Keep the rest of your pieces light so that it makes a great juxtaposition with the heavier leather.

3. Put A Hat On It
Hats are a great addition to everyone’s closet. Not only are they trendy, but you can kiss those bad hair days away. They are a perfect piece to add-on to any outfit. Opt for a beanie or a wide-brimmed felt hat to compliment your look.

4. Longer Hems Are Your Friend
Ditch those short skirts! Midi skirts were on trend this summer and will make a great transitional piece into the colder months. Just make sure to pair this statement piece with more fall appropriate pieces to keep the look up to date with the season.

5. Denim, Denim, Denim
This is an item that can be worn all year round in the form of a denim jacket, a chambray shirt or a classic pair of jeans. Denim is a perfect and versatile piece to transition into fall especially on those its not-that-hot but not-that-cold days. Plus everyone owns a piece denim on their closet, which means you don’t have to buy any new pieces.

6. Wear Darker Colors
The easiest way to transition your summer wardrobe is wearing colors that are darker. Swap out your brights for more neutral colors and bold jewel-toned pieces like emerald green or wine.

7. Say Goodbye to Sandals and Hello to Booties & Flats
Swap out your sandals for a pair of ankle booties or ballet flats. These are perfect for the fall and they go with everything!
