September is officially here (yeah, I’m 13 days late) and with a new month that means new favorites! I normally don’t do a lot of monthly favorites on the blog because I feel as though it translates better in video form. I can go more in depth if I’m talking as oppose to writing and not feel as though you guys won’t get bored. But until I actually get over my fear and start a YT, I’m going to be writing.
Anyhoo, I have not worn a lot of makeup during the summer because it’s been way too humid. However, when I do decide to beat this mug; these are the products that I’ve constantly reached for.
I think this a little self explanatory. I’ve spoke about this kit in a few of my recent posts (you can read them here and here). This kit has been in HEAVY rotation since I received it. It adds the perfect glow without it being too glittery or chunky. Plus you mix all the colors in the kit to create your own custom shade.
$46 for a stick foundation is a little pricey, but it is worth it! The foundation is buildable. You can put on one layer for a natural look or add 2 more if you want more of a full coverage face. Regardless, your face never looks cakey and that makes it worthwhile the price.
I’m still learning how to slay my brows like some of my favorite beauty gurus and this pencil from Benefit helps me achieve that. The magic is in the tip of the pencil. The teardrop tip helps you shape, define and fill in your brows with ease. Don’t believe me, look at my recent Instagram pics. My brows were on point!
I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with this concealer. I normally use MAC Prolongwear concealer and it’s my holy grail for covering up the darkness around my eyes and staying put all day. The consistency of the MAC concealer is thick, while this one from Too Faced is very light. I’m not used to this so at first I didn’t like it; however with continued use I’ve started to love it. It’s creamy, light and will make under your eye look bright and refreshed. However it does not cover dark circles all that well, which means you might have to color correct. Also, it smells like coconuts and the scent is a little strong. I don’t mind that, but if you have a sensitive nose than you won’t like this.
I was definitely excited when Makeup Shayla released this contour kit with Tarte. However, I’m disappointed that it’s limited edition and that there isn’t a contour palette in their existing range for deeper skin tones. Honestly, Tarte should just make this permanent. I don’t buy anything from Tarte cosmetics because they rarely cater to deeper skin tones (this was my first purchase!), but I digress. The colors in the palette are very pigmented and suit my skin tone perfectly. What I love about it (other than the fact that it smells like chocolate *drools*) is that there are two shades to contour with and two highlighter shades to fit various ranges of melanin. It also includes a blush and a powder to set under the eye. I haven’t baked my concealer in awhile because I’ve been using the powder to set it with. Plus it’s travel friendly and I can use this palette on the eyes. It’s worth the money, trust me.
Doing wing liner has been very easy for thanks to this brush! I can do precise work in the inner corners and lash line because of the fine tip. This brush is very inexpensive compared to some of the other liner brushes on the market and this does the job better than all of them in my book.
I’ve bought a few liquid lipsticks from Lena Lashes and I must say they are one of my favorite brand of liquid lippies (the price isn’t bad either and it’s black owned as well!). One of my favorites last month is the color Saint, which is a light pinky nude color. In the tube it looks daunting, but what I do is line my lips with a brown liner, fill it in and put the lipstick on top so that it mutes the color a bit. It’s such a gorgeous color and I’m not one to typically reach for nude lipsticks but this color makes me want to invest in more.
And now for the Not So Favorite of the month…drum roll please…..
It pains to say this but this palette was not a favorite for me at all. I was so excited when I found out that one of my favorite beauty gurus NikkieTutorials was doing a palette with Too Faced cosmetics, I wake easy had my card out ready to purchase. When I finally got it in the mail and tried to use it, my excitement quickly dissipated. Too Faced’s palettes are very pigmented (I have the Chocolate Bar palette, which is BOMB), but this one was lacking in pigment. The transitions were a pain to work with and I had to constantly build it up to get it to show up on me. Also the blush, bronzer and highlighter are not WOC friendly. It does come with a purple mascara and glitter, but I would never use the mascara and the glitter felt very chunky. Overall I was disappointed and I actually returned the item because I knew it would just sit in my collection and collect dust. SMH! Hopefully her next collab will be better than this one.
That’s it guys. All of my faves and not so faves for the month of August. What were some of your favorite beauty products for August? Let me know in the comments down below.
